Lahore: In a tragic incident, 10 members of a family, including an infant and women, died in a deadly fire when the compressor of a refrigerator exploded in a house in Bhati Gate area of ​​Lahore in the early hours of Wednesday.

The dead included a man, his wife, two other women, five children and a seven-month-old baby. Only one member of the family managed to escape the deadly fire by jumping from the building.

Rescue officials confirmed that the fire broke out due to an explosion in the refrigerator’s compressor. He said that there was no ventilation in the house to get out the smoke.

Some of the deceased were identified as Adil Hussain, Saira Banu, Farzana, Ambar, Ghazal, Fathima, while identification of the rest is underway.

Adil’s father told Geo News that Adil called him at around 2:45 am asking for help.

“When we reached here, there was nothing left,” he said.

Police said the bodies of the deceased would be handed over to the heirs after completion of identification and medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, the rescue team said that the process of cooling down the burnt building is underway.

Meanwhile, Punjab’s Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has taken cognizance of the matter and has sought a report from the Lahore Commissioner.

He ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the matter and expressed his condolences to the heirs of the deceased family.
