Ashura 2023: Banks will be closed for three days

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday announced a two-day bank holiday on the occasion of Ashura.

“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed from July 28 to 29, 2023 (Friday to Saturday) on account of public holiday on the occasion of Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram 1445 Hijri),” said a notification issued by the central bank.

The country will observe Ashura Day on July 28 and 29, Muharram 9 and 10 to remember the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

The federal government has declared public holidays on the occasion of Muharram 9 and 10.

The Sindh government has also banned pillion riding on Muharram 9 and 10 as part of several measures taken under Section 144 of the CrPC to ensure uninterrupted activities on the days of Ashura.

In addition, the federal government approved the deployment of armed forces across the country to ensure security during the holy month of Muharram.
