A double-decker bus carrying a large number of people collided with a public bus near Gramercy Park in Manhattan, New York City, on Thursday night, injuring about 81 people who were taken to the hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, passengers were shouting as the bus ran through a red light and the bus “T-boned”.

The buses were jam-packed after the horrific accident.

According to Fire Department Officer Paul Hopper, none of the injured had life-threatening wounds.

According to Richard Dewey, president of New York City Transit, the coach was going so fast that it hit the bus twice.

“There were 20 New Yorkers on X27 [public bus] Was trying to get on the bus home this evening… when the tour bus behind us ran a red light and our bus broke down… as I understand it, it was going so fast, It actually hit it twice,” he said.

“A good [bus driver] There was thrashing, but no life-threatening injuries, thank God,” he said.

“But [it] It was definitely a harrowing moment for him and you know, it was a harrowing moment for about 26 other passengers on the big bus behind us as well.

As pictures from the scene began to emerge, both buses were heavily damaged as the front window of the tour bus was completely smashed.

Several passengers were left with cuts, scrapes, bruises, some suspected fractures and some with head and neck injuries, Hopper said.

According to WireResponders had to use ladders and break windows to reach some of the injured, and lower them to the ground using ropes.

Passenger Ishraq Jahan told CBS News that he saw the bus “coming towards him”.

“I heard the woman next to me scream, so I looked up and I saw this bus coming towards us,” he said.

“I just saw mirrors everywhere for a second. It was honestly like I was in a movie, I saw blood.”
