Turbat: At least five people, including a policeman, were killed when unidentified assailants attacked a police station in Nasirabad area of Turbat, Balochistan, in what officials have termed a terrorist incident.
According to an official, the workers were from Punjab and were identified as Mohammad Uzair, Bakar Ali, Shahbaz Ahmed and Shehzad Ahmed. Shahbaz and Shahzad were brothers.
Police said the bodies of the deceased were shifted to Teaching Hospital Turbat. A laborer was also injured during the firing.
Acting Information Minister Jan Achakzai confirmed that the shooting was a terrorist incident, and condemned the attack on unarmed workers.
Meanwhile, interim Chief Minister Ali Mardan Khan Domki has summoned a report from the Ministry of Home and Tribal Affairs. He also vowed to hold the perpetrators of the attack accountable.
This is the second such incident in Turbat this month where laborers from Punjab have been targeted.
Earlier this month, at least six workers were killed in their sleep and two were injured in an overnight attack by gunmen in the town of Turbat.
According to the police, unidentified gunmen attacked workers sleeping in an under-construction house.
The deceased – which included four family members, two of whom are brothers – were identified as Rizwan, Shahbaz, Wasim, Shafiq Ahmed, Mohammad Naeem and Sikandar.
