New York City authorities said Friday they have arrested a suspect on Long Island linked to the Gilgo Beach murders, ending the search for the serial killer who is said to have killed ten young women. The suspect, believed to be the Long Island Serial Killer, was arrested off First Avenue north of Gilgo Beach, and was said to be responsible for the murder of four women in 2010.

The investigation is being led by Suffolk County Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney.
A spokeswoman for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said Friday morning that there had been “significant progress” in the case, but declined to provide further details.
Local reports indicate the suspect is from Massapequa, which is in neighboring Nassau County.
Authorities began searching Ocean Parkway after Shannon Gilbert, a 24-year-old New Jersey sex worker who disappeared after dropping off a client’s home in 2010, found a human body on a stretch of the highway in Suffolk County, according to police. Eleven sets of remains were found. Oak Beach.
