  • Former CJP Nisar presided over the SJC reference against Naqvi.
  • Justice Mazhar Naqvi is “very close” to Faiz Hamid.
  • Hamid Naqvi was brought from LHC to SC out-of-turn.

Former Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has claimed that ex-spy Faiz Hamid influenced some members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to save Supreme Court Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi from a case. .

The former judge, who was sacked by the SJC for making an explosive speech against the then ISI chief, said during an interview with a local news channel that former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar was presiding over the reference against Justice Naqvi in the council.

He told the interviewer that the bench also included Justices Asif Khosa and Gulzar Ahmed.

Shaukat claimed, “The then ISI chief General Faiz Hamid contacted Saqib Nisar and asked him to clear ‘our man’ from the case.”

At this request, Nisar said he had no problem with it and asked Hamid to have Justice Khosa recuse himself from the bench – and he did.

He further claimed, “Justice Mazhar Naqvi was very close to Faiz Hamid and it was he who brought him from the Lahore High Court to the out-of-turn Supreme Court.”

He said that Justice Naqvi is among the seven judges who were elevated to the top court out of turn.

“The bench of LHC which overruled Justice Waqar Seth’s decision was headed by Justice Mazhar Naqvi.”

It is important to note that several references have been filed against the SC judge, but the SJC is yet to hear them.
