Punjab jail department calls PTI chairman’s claim “baseless and against facts”

- Imran Khan has been kept in the cell next to him in Adiala Jail: Ilahi.
- It is said that Khan will get unprecedented number of votes in the next elections.
- Jail officials say that there is no question of such a meeting in Adiala jail.
International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Union officials “regularly” meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, the party’s jailed chairman Chaudhry Pervez Elahi claimed on Thursday. Did it to.
However, a Punjab Prisons Department spokesperson rejected Ilahi’s claim and described it as “baseless and against the facts”.
Speaking to reporters in the courtroom in Lahore, the PTI chairman – where he was brought in connection with the hearing of the money laundering case registered against him – said that Khan was confined in a cell next to him in the jail.
“Representatives of the European Union and the IMF [routinely] Meet Imran,” he claimed.
Responding to a question about the upcoming elections to be held on February 8, 2024, the former Punjab chief minister said the ousted prime minister will garner an unprecedented number of votes.
“There will be no rigging in this election,” he said, adding that the election date was announced on the instructions of the apex court.
In response to another question, the PTI Chairman said that till date no one has asked him for a press conference. Elahi further said that he stands by Khan and will continue to support the ousted prime minister – who was removed from power through a parliamentary vote in April last year – in the future as well.
The jailed prime minister has been attacking the establishment since he was removed from office, but on the other hand, Khan’s close aide and party president surprisingly claimed: “We have always had good relations with the establishment.”
Responding to Ilahi’s claim, the provincial jail department spokesperson said there was no truth in the reports.
Calling Ilahi’s claim “baseless and against the facts”, the spokesperson clarified: “There was no such meeting with the PTI chairman in Adiala jail.”
The jail official said: “The question of such a meeting in Adiala jail does not arise.”
The spokesperson said that Ilahi and Khan were kept in separate cells in the jail, adding that even the former Chief Executive of Punjab never met the ousted prime minister in jail.
The spokesperson said that only his family and lawyers were allowed to meet the jailed Prime Minister.
With more than 300 cameras, the IG office monitored the jail round the clock, he said.
