  • Khurshid Shah says that PPP will contest the elections alone.
  • It is said that Punjab has shown its confidence in PPP in the past.
  • “Parties have the right to contest elections separately or in alliance”.

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khurshid Shah on Friday, without naming Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), said that the Prime Minister’s House is still in the hands of the same party which ruled earlier.

Speaking to media persons in Lahore, Shah said, “The government will not function if someone is forced to rule us. If (the prime minister) is elected, the country itself will suffer.”

Referring to PML-N’s electoral alliance with Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Shah said that PPP is contesting the elections alone.

“The people of Punjab had shown their trust on the PPP in the past,” Shah said, adding that if there were any irregularities in the elections, there would be huge loss.

He called for the restoration of democracy through voting in Pakistan, saying, “There is no interference during the voting process across the world.”

Reiterating his party’s stand on level playing field, the PPP leader wondered how parties can have a level playing field during the upcoming general elections when the PML-N leaders are in the current caretaker government.

Shah further said that political parties have the right to contest elections separately or in alliance with other parties. He said, “Every party wants the Prime Minister to be elected from their party.”

Speaking about the Israel-Gaza conflict in which more than 10,000 Palestinians have died at the hands of Israeli troops, the PPP leader said the caretaker government should raise its voice on the issue.

He said, “The helplessness of Muslims on the issue of Israel is clearly visible.”
