LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) on Sunday rejected reports of merger and said there will be adjustment of seats only in some constituencies with the Nawaz Sharif-led party.
In a statement on Sunday, PML-Q Punjab general secretary Chaudhry Shafe Hussain said his party was not merging with any other political party.
Shafe said that the party would maintain its individual status and its candidates would contest the elections on the tractor symbol.
The PML-Q leader clarified on reports which claimed that Chaudhary Shujaat would seek to merge the party with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the coming days if he wants seats for his two sons and the party. Option can be given. General Secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema.
It further said that PML-N is trying to bring other political forces into its fold for the upcoming elections.
PML-Q was a key ally in Shahbaz Sharif’s coalition government and played a key role in ousting Imran Khan from power through a no-confidence motion.
Political activities have increased in the country after the election date was announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Last week, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had announced that they would contest the elections jointly with PML-N and a committee was formed to draft proposals.
On Sunday, the PML-N delegation held a meeting with the MQM-P leadership in Karachi and discussed “electoral alliance and future strategies”.
The party is also contacting other rivals of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Sindh to form a grand alliance.
PPP unhappy
On the other hand, reacting to the statements of PML-N leaders in Karachi, PPP leader Sharjeel Memon said that Nawaz League has always come to power through rigging, which is a bitter truth, but PPP wants to move forward.
“Whichever party PML-N will ally with, PPP will make a clean sweep in the upcoming elections,” he claimed.
He said, PML-N has always remembered the people of Sindh during election years.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Sharjeel said that PPP has built houses for the people of Sindh.
And those who ruled Punjab never even created proper hospital facilities for the people. How many houses has PML-N built for those who were not able to afford them, he asked.
“Incompetent people were imposed on the country in 2018 and we do not want to repeat the same mistake in 2024,” he said.
