Dera Ismail Khan: Two policemen were martyred while three others were injured in a terrorist attack on an oil and gas company in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) on Tuesday morning.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the terrorist attack took place in Drizanda tehsil of DI Khan, in which policemen were martyred and injured.
The bodies of the injured policemen and the other two have been taken to the hospital, the DSP said. He told that the condition of a policeman is critical.
DSP said that policemen have been deployed for the security of the oil company and the search for the suspects is going on.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the attack in DI Khan, saying strict action is needed to completely eliminate terrorists from the country.
5th attack in 5 days
This was the fifth terrorist attack in DI Khan in the last few days.
On Sunday, suspected terrorists attacked Gul Imam police station in Tank area of the district, which were repelled by security personnel. A police constable was injured in the attack.
Armed terrorists attacked the police station resulting in a gunfight between the police personnel and the attackers. After this the militants fled from the area.
On the same day, another policeman was injured in a terrorist attack on a check post in Ruri area of Kulachi tehsil. Police said the attackers used small and heavy weapons during the firing after which they managed to escape.
At least six people were killed and over 30, including two policemen, were injured in a blast that targeted a police van in the Tank Adda area of DI Khan on Friday.
The vehicle was moving from Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines towards Kulachi tehsil when it was attacked with a remote-controlled blast.
On Friday, an officer was martyred in another blast near a police and army convoy in Takwara area of Kulachi.
Pakistan is facing the grave challenge of terrorism as terrorist attacks have increased in the last few months.
The Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said in a report released in October that security forces lost at least 386 personnel in the first nine months of 2023, the highest level in eight years.
In the third quarter of 2023, about 445 people lost their lives and 440 were injured in more than 190 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were the primary epicenters of violence, accounting for approximately 94% of all deaths and 89% of attacks (including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations) recorded during this period.
